FAQs

Is Los Angeles Rifle & Revolver Club accepting new members?

We are a welcoming club with membership spots available. The annual membership fee is a reasonable $75.00, with a one-time setup fee of $100.00 for new members.

Is the range safe?

Safety is the #1 priority of our sport, no firearm accident has ever happened at our range. As part of our commitment to safety, new members will undergo an evaluation period. This period is designed to ensure that all members are comfortable and competent with our shooting and safety practices. We encourage you to ask any questions you may have about our club, shooting techniques, or safety protocols at anytime.

Is LAR&R a competition club?

Yes, our focus is on competition match shooting. We average two 22LR rifle matches and one PTO for air rifle and air pistol matches each month. Please see the Calendar and LAR&R Event pages.

However, you do not need to compete. Many of our members don’t. Some prefer to practice for a while before shooting a match. You can do whatever interests you and choose your own adventure.

Why shoot 22LR rifle or air guns?

Shooting 22LR rifles and air guns require proper fundamentals of marksmanship to shoot well. These skills will make you a better shooter in all disciplines, and the ammo is relatively inexpensive.

What skills do I need to shoot at the 22LR rifle range?

You and your equipment must be able to hit a 10" paper target at 50 meters consistently. To be competitive shoot one MOA.

A senior club member will set up a time to do a test evaluation.

What gear do I need to shoot at the 22LR rifle range?

  • A 22LR rifle:  Members shoot precision bolt-action single-shot rifles such as Anschutz, Walther, Vudoo, and custom Benchrest rifles. You can shoot many types of 22LR rifles with a magazine (only 5 rounds can be loaded in a mag)

  • An Air-Rifle: 800 Foot Per Second Precision Air Rifle.

  • An optic: You will need an optic to see your hits. Either a rifle scope or a spotting scope. The holes in the paper targets are too small and far away to see with the naked eye.

  • A front support rest or a support bag or a sling with a shooting jacket, aka ‘sling’ shooting. We do not shoot unsupported or offhand.

  • Ammo: Standard velocity 40-grain 22LR ammo.

  • Eye and Ear protection.

Is the Los Angeles Rifle & Revolver Club a learning and coaching club?

Indeed, we are a learning and coaching club. Our extensive history includes coaching new members from scratch, with several progressing to the Olympics, the Shooting Hall of Fame, becoming scholarshiped collegiate athletes, and winning numerous national and regional championships.

Can I shoot a pistol?

No, we do not allow centerfire or rimfire pistols. We allow air pistols only. We have USA Shooting 10-meter indoor shooting lanes for air pistols and air rifles with electronic scoring.

Please see this link for air pistol and air rifle information: www.junior-shooters.com

Can I 'plink' at the range?

No, there are no steel targets, so nothing will go 'plink.' We only shoot NRA and ARA paper targets, and electronic score keeping targets. We have paper targets available for $0.50.
